Q. What are wood boards made of?

Wood board is often manufactured from the same types of hardwoods and softwoods that are used for the production of lumber; however the scraps and waste wood from the sawmill are utilized instead. Wood board is produced by combining pulverized wood particles with heated thermoplastic resin. Others use a one-step mixing and extrusion method to generate the final product while others combine and process the components into pellets which are then re-melted and shaped into the desired shape. Virgin thermoplastics and recycled thermoplastics with products based on polyethylene being the most frequent kind are both utilized. In order to generate a product that is uniquely tailored to its use UV stabilizers colorants coupling agents and lubricants may all be added to the mixture and the result can take on either a solid or hollow shape.
