Product Overview

Key Features

The classification follows the AISI with the addition of B. Therefore, BTI and BMI classifies high speed steel of tungsten and molybdenum grades respectively.

Non-Shrinking Steels

Non-Shrinking Steels refer to steels which depict marginal alternation in volume from the annealed state upon hardening and tempering at low temperatures. In such type of steels the volume alterations counterbalance each other, and these are needed for master tools, gauges and dies which must not change size upon hardening after machining in the annealed state. The cheapest non-shrinking steel contains nearly 1.7% manganese and 0.9% carbon. A better steel is:

C, 1.0; Mn, 0.95; W, 0.5; Cr, 0.75; V, 0.2

Both steels are oil quenched in the temperature range 780 - 800C and tempered in the range 224-245C. High carbon having 5% composition and 12% chromium steels are also used for non-distortion.

Finishing Tool Steel

While high-speed steels are exceptionally capable at high speed with heavy cuts, such steels are incapable at slow speeds with lighter cuts for holding the specified edge essential for getting a fine finish on particular articles. Special steels, also known as finishing steels, have been produced for retaining a keen cutting edge for relatively longer periods in comparison to carbon steel used under similar conditions. The general type contains the estimated composition:

C, 1.1 to 1.4; W, 4; Cr, 0.7 to 1.5; V, 0.3

After preheating at a temperature 650C, finishing tool steel is water hardened in a temperature range of 820-840C and immediately tempered at 150-180C, and further annealed at 750C. Tungsten steels having 1 to 5.5% and 1 to 1.3% carbon are ideal for twist drills, milling taps, drawing dies, cutters, and also tools for boring cylinders and expanding tubes, which require long nonstop cutting without pause for regrinding. These steels are tempered at 200-230C.

Cold Die Steels
The standard oil hardening die steels comprise 1 C, 1 Mn, 0.3-1.6 W, & 0.5 Cr, hardened at 800C and right away tempered in a temperature range 170-250C. High speed steels are satisfactory for cold obtrusion punches, e.g. 6W6 Mo.

High carbon-chromium (A)
This type of steel is characterized by good resistance to oxidation at high temperatures, high hardness and excellent wearing properties. The steel is good for intricate sections, dies for coining, blanking, tiller threading, and drop forging hard materials. The structure is martenistic on cooling in open air but the carbides can be precipitated and the steel be softened by extremely slow cooling from a surface temperature 840C.

High Tungsten-Chromium Steel
High Tungsten-Chromium Steel is the best type of steel for hot work apart from conditions wherein resistance to scaling or oxidation is imperative. Such type of steel is used for hot-drawing, extrusion dies and dies for die casting aluminium, hot-forging, brass and zinc alloys. Die-casting die steels may sometimes experience surface cracking as a result of cyclic expansion and contraction, made worse by the erosive action of the molten metal. Enhanced die life facilitates customary maintenance and cautious preheating before use.

Sensitivity of die steels to deformation at the time of heat-treatment is largely affected by direction and particle size of the carbides present in the microstructure. Expansion is highest towards carbide stringers. Fine random distribution of carbides is therefore very much required. For extrusion dies and die casting, molybdenum containing 0.5 Ti + 0.08 Zr is useful in crucial applications. Resistance to thermal shock, thermal conductivity and attack by molten metal is high and no heat treatment is needed. Nimonic 80(a) and 90 have also been made to use with a fair degree of certainty for dies and inserts. Die block steels for drop forging have been categorised into four types including:

1) 1% nickel, 0.6 C,
2) 0,6 carbon steel,
3) 1.5 Ni, 0.7 Cr, 0.6 C, and
4) 1,5 Ni, 0,7 Cr, 0,6 C, 0,25 Mo.

Hardness ranges from 425/455 for dies with shallow impressions to 298/ 355 for very large forgings.

Supported by a team of highly experience and competent professionals,we have become a pioneer manufacturer and supplier of a wide gamut of Tool Steel. To design and fabricate this steel, we make use of best grade basic fabrics and modern machines at our state of the art production wing. Offered steel is widely used for shearing, cutting tools, metal processing, stamping and forming of metals and plastics, and so on. Our range of Tool Steel is best known for its distinctive hardness, resistance to abrasion, and their resistance to deformation at elevated temperatures (red-hardness).
