Specialised Winder Controls

Another major breakthrough waveform controls has made is in the winder controls for release paper. This being a high slip product, specialized winder tension controls are required for this substrate. Generally with the standard type of controls it is not possible to wind silicon paper and make good wound rolls of large diameters. Due to high slip properties of the substrates the winding tends to telescope after a particular diameter. With the system developed by waveform controls it is possible to produce good tight rolls up to 900 - 100 mm in diameter.

Brief description of the system.

Winder tension control comprises of high end encoder feedback AC drive of required capacity. The PLC along with MMI incorporates specially designed software for the purpose. An ultrasonic diameter sensor senses the diameter of the wound roll to the micron level accuracy and gives feedback to the PLC. A load cell to sense the actual tension is also provided and the feedback is given to the PLC. The software precisely calculates the required torque based on the properties of the substrates, line speed, weight of the roll and tension set and it is communicated to the fast response AC drive through a high speed network. MMI (man machine interface) is provided on the machine for the operator to set different parameters based on the requirements. These winder controllers finds its use on silicon coating machines, label stock machines, extrusion lamination machines etc.
