The Solids Handling Bench introduces students to the behavior of granular materials
Demonstration capabilities:
Comminution (size reduction by milling) and batch mixing using a ball mill
Batch mixing of granular material (powder to powder) using a V blender
Bulk density, particle density and porosity (void age) of different granular materials
Angle of repose of different granular materials and demonstration of stratification/segregation when mixed materials are poured (modeling avalanches). Effect of moisture content
Flow of granular materials through circular orifices and effect of moisture content
Pneumatic conveying of fine granular materials and cyclone separation
Analysis of size distribution, efficiency, loading etc. using a fixed amplitude vibratory shaker with 6 sieves
Shearing of the bulk solid sample by motor rotation of the shear cell
Vertical loading of the sample via ring-shaped lid with weights

Force sensor to measure the shear forces
Vernier caliper gauge to measure the change in height and density of the bulk sample
Software to record the sheer force characteristics via US Bunder Windows7
evaluation software to determine their Levant bulk solid parameters
