Magnesite slurry is prepared and applied to the back of the tiles before firing to inhibit the tiles from sticking to the rollers in a kiln. Magnesite, being soft, does not abrade the rollers. Magnesite is also used in the production of MgO which is an important refractory material used in linings of blast furnaces and kilns.
