A Solar combiner box is a simple electrical component for combining and housing the wiring coming from your solar panels. Depending upon your particular solar system design you may or may not even need one of these components. For many systems the wires coming from the strings of solar panels are combined inside the inverter so there is no need to use a combiner box. However, if the distance between your panels and your inverter is significant, or if you have more than 2 or 3 strings in your solar system, then a Solar combiner box may be useful.

An Solar Array Junction Box is a container for electrical connections, usually intended to conceal them from sight and deter tampering. A small metal or plastic junction box may form part of an electrical conduit or thermoplastic-sheathed cable (TPS) wiring system in a building. If designed for surface mounting, Solar Array Junction Box is used mostly in ceilings, under floors or concealed behind an access panel - particularly in domestic or commercial buildings. An appropriate type (such as that shown on the right) may be buried in the plaster of a wall (although full concealment is no longer allowed by modern codes and standards) or cast into concrete - with only the cover visible.
