Limestone Flaggy

Limestone is a calcareous rock, essentially composed of CaCO3. Presence of fine argillaceous parting make it flaggy. It generally contains varying amount of silica, magnesia and iron. Presence of magnesia above 5 % makes it dolomitic and when it reaches 21.7%, it becomes dolomite.

Physical Properties - It is a fine to medium grained, non-crystalline to crystalline, medium hard, generally grey to grayish white, greenish white and varied coloured rock which generally occurs in thinly bedded form. The beds are generally separated by thin shale parting.

Mode of Occurrence - Occurs as low dipping and almost horizontally diposed bedded deposits.

Uses - It is vastly used as flooring and roofing stone, wall claddings, flagstone, paving stone in building, roads, as aslets, girders, milestone etc.
