Liquid chromatography has been widely used for the purification of organic compounds. Especially, normal-phase chromatography using nonpolar solvents such as hexane and ethyl acetate has been applied due to the high solubility of its compounds and as it can be easy handled after treatment. There is separation difficulty with silica gel, however, depending on the characteristics of the compounds. Although adaptable media have been developed for compounds that have separation difficulty, there are no proper media for separating acid compounds with the carboxyl group, etc. HECTOR-ACD supplies a superior separation method for acidic compounds by introducing COOH and SO3H bonds on the silica surface (patent applied). This acid silica has been placed on the market for the separation of problematic compounds.
