The High voltage breakdown tester are used to ascertain the quality of Insulation Material before their usage in electrical applications. It is useful for measurement of Breakdown Voltage of Electrical Transformers, Cables & Wires, Insulation material & components. The test level depends upon the working voltage of insulation material / electrical apparatus or as per IS requirements. The standard specifications for various electrical apparatus specifies power frequency voltage withstand tests at different levels depending upon the working voltage of electrical apparatus.
HV tester is designed to give an adjustable A. C or D.C high voltage supply. The voltage is provided through an isolated secondary winding of a high voltage transformer. The primary of the transformer is fed a variable voltage through a variac. The voltmeter is directly calibrated to give the output voltage of the high voltage coil at no load.
