Gravimetric blenders are utilized in the plastics industry to precisely weigh two or more components before mixing them in an injection molding machine, extruder, or blow molding machine. Gravimetric blenders are classified into two types: loss-in-weight blenders and gain-in-weight blenders.

A loss-in-weight gravimetric blender or gravimetric feeder, such as MCBalance, measures the weight loss of one or more hoppers using a load cell located beneath the load frame to which the hopper is attached. The material is dosed from the hoppers using a dosing screw or inline with a dosing cylinder. To ensure the correct mix, all materials are dosed together, and the dosing rate from each hopper is controlled by a special monitoring system.
