Seamless forged rings and rolled rings are manufactured by ring rolling machines. The process consists of a metal perform (pierced discs or thick walled, ring shaped blanks) called Donut. This donut is heated and placed over the idler. The idler applies pressure to the metal perform against the drive roll. Ring diameters are increased as the continuous pressure reduces the wall thickness. The axial rolls control the height of the ring. The advantage of ring rolling process is the reduction in rough weight in this type of forging, thereby making huge savings in raw material costs and machining time & costs. It includes:
