Basement, ground or any convenient place e.g. under the stairs but within 20 sq. mtrs (abt 50 sq. ft.)

Vertical load

Full vertical load due to machine room above lift shaft.

No vertical load on building structure.

Old building

Invariably independent structure required for installation.

When building cannot take vertical load, often Hydraulic lift is only choice.

Lift shaft size

10% to 15% higher than Hydraulic lift.

10% to 15% smaller than traction lift

Civil work co-ordination

Required for machine room installation. Required for 4 guide rails.?

Not required for machine room installation. Required only for 2 guide rails.

Earthquake

Not safe as all loads at the top

Power failure

Strenuous and cumbersome process to move the lift in any direction. Alternatively, alternate power source required which is very expensive.

Lift comes down to nearest level with the help of small battery. It can be
brought down to ground floor by pressing the button on the valve block.
