Electrical to optical signal conversion
The GD8-10G modem converts an E1 electrical signal into an optical signal. After the conversion, the signal is transmitted over fiber optic cable, extending the E1 service range up to 144 km (89.4 miles).
The modem is transparent to E1 framing (G.703), which enables it to transmit both framed or unframed E1 signals.
The GD8-10G supports various optical interfaces:
- 850 nm for multimode fiber
- 1310 nm for single mode or multimode fiber
- 1550 nm laser diode for extended range over single mode fiber
- WDM for single fiber extension
To facilitate system diagnostics, the optical line multiplexers feature status indicators, AIS alarm generation, recognition and dry contact closure upon link failure.
