Provided range of China clay/kaolin is a hydrous alumina silicate that is used in bodies of tiles, engobe, and glaze. Kaolin enhances working and drying properties of ceramic bodies. It can provide whiteness to engobe upto L* 95 and acts a suspending agent in glaze slips. Zigma offers low plasticity kaolins from Kutch region with L* values upto 94-94.5 in lump, noodle, and powder form.
1. Britonz HB (Fired Whiteness L* 92) - This a medium-high whiteness kaolin
2. Opax HB (Fired Whiteness L*94) - Figure 1 - This is a very high fired whiteness kaolin and is suitable for engobe and vitreous body.
3. Britonz HM (plasticity 40%) - This is a high plasticity kaolin that is suitable for tableware.
