This process, known as a frittinga was developed to render any soluble and/or toxic components insoluble and/or nontoxic. Further benefits of fritting include the elimination of chemically combined water from the ingredients; reduction of the melting point of the fritted materials versus that of the individual components; and simplification of the glaze or bond system by reducing the number of materials in the formula.
