This colourless solid is a lactam (a cyclic amide) of caproic acid. Approximately 4.5 billion kilograms are produced annually. Caprolactam is the precursor to Nylon 6, a widely used synthetic polymer. GSFC has two Caprolactam Plants having rated capacities of 20000 TPA and 50000 TPA. The main raw materials are Benzene, Oleum, Ammonia, Carbon dioxide, Synthesis Gas, Sulphur dioxide, Caustic soda and Sulphuric acid.
