These cabinets have un re circulated airflow away from the operator that is discharged to the atmosphere after filtration through a HEPA filter. They provide good operator protection but do not protect the material within the cabinet (the product) from contamination.

The system is designed to meet the standards as per ANSI\ASHRAE 110, Surrogate Powder. These BSCs are commonly used to enclose specific equipment like centrifuges etc or procedures like aerating cultures that potentially generate aerosols. BSCs of this class are either ducted (connected to the building exhaust system) or un-ducted (re circulating filtered exhaust back into the laboratory).
