Automatic Methane Potential Test System (Ampts)

These Automatic Methane Potential Test System (AMPTS) has been developed for on-line measurements of ultra low biogas and bio-methane flows produced from the anaerobic digestion of any biological degradable substrate at the laboratory scale. The Automatic Methane Potential Test System (AMPTS) follows the same analysing principles as conventional methane potential tests, which make the results fully comparable with common methods. However, with the AMPTS the gas volume measurements and data logging are fully automatic during the long incubation period, which significantly reduces the time and labour demand for carrying out the analysis. With the AMPTS, the anaerobic degradation of a specific biomass substrate can be monitored as either biogas production or bio-methane, by connecting the optional CO2 stripping step. Moreover, both gas volume and flow rate are displayed and recorded. The high quality of the data obtained from the AMPTS can be used to extract kinetic information of the degradation process, which in turn provides for a much better understanding of the dynamic degradation behaviour of a specific biomass substrate.
