Aldezol

Indications :-
* Trychomoniasis, amoebiasis and giardiasis
* A variety of infections caused by obligate anaerobic bacteria including bacteroids,
* Clostridium and Helicobactor species.
* Fascilitate extraction of adult guinea worms in dracunculiasis
* Metronidazole may benefit some patients with peptic ulcers who are infected with Helicobactor pylori.
* The drug is also used in Pseudomembranens colitis (in place of vancomycin).

Description :-
Each 100 ml contains :
Metronidazole : 0.5 g

Dosage :-
In the treatment of most serious anaerobic infections, metronidazole is usually administered Intravenous initially. Loading dose - 15 mg/kg infused over 1 hour (A 1 g for a 70 kg adult).

Maintenance dose - 7.5 mg / kg infused over 1 hour every 6 hours ( A 500 mg for a 70 kg adult ). Administer the first maintenance dose 6 hours following the initial loading dose. Do not exceed a maximum of 4 g in 24 hours.

The usual duration of therapy is 7 to 10 days; however, infection of the bone and joints, lower respiratory tract and endocardium may require longer treatment. Administer by slow IV, continuous or intermittent drip infusion only.

To prevent postoperative infection in contaminated or potentially contaminated colorectal surgery, the recommended adult dosage is 15 mg/kg infused over 30 to 60 minutes and completed A 1 hour before surgery, followed by 7.5 mg/kg infused over 30 to 60 minutes at 6 and 12 hours after the initial dose.
