Q. What are the risks of OTC (over-the-counter) pain killers?

OTC medicines are safe till it is used as per the direction. However, medicines under OTC can cause problems. For example, acetaminophen, if taken in excess, can cause liver problems. Aspirin can cause a life-threatening illness called Reye’s syndrome while NSAID can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. NSAIDs can also increase the risk of bruising and bleeding, stomach upset and skin rashes or blisters.
