Glass with wires in it is very brittle and can break upon impact perhaps causing serious injury. There are now reliable alternatives to using wires in glass. Because it was the only reasonably priced fire-rated glazing product for a long time wired glass may be seen in the windows and doors of most educational institutions. Using wired glass to comply with fire rules is now widely known to put students at risk and this knowledge has spread to school building managers administrators and architects. When dropped it's just as deadly as regular glass while being just about half as strong.
