Commonly known as hemicellulose. Xylan exists in plant cell wall, in the corn cob, sugar cane-rich slag. Hemicellulose xylan is the major structural forms, from I -D-pyranose wood to 1 a 4 bond. Their nature and composition has not yet been determined so far.
Xylan containing some amount of regular sugar, such as L-arabinose, D-glucose, D-galactose, D-mannose, D-glucuronic acid and D-galacturonic acid, etc., they often grafted the formation of branched-chain manner. Soluble in dilute alkalinei xylanase can be separated and the cellulose. A total of xylan hydrolysis with strong acid, is prepared on industrial furfural method. In the acid hydrolysis, xylose is the main raw material for preparation of xylitol.
