What is Wet Sandblasting?
What is water sandblasting? Have you ever used sandpaper to remove paint or smooth a rough surface? Water Sandblasting is basically the same process. However, water sandblasting is done at really high speeds with the use of a High pressure waterjet pump that pushes solid particles across the rough surface of the item you want sanded.
A sandblaster will make the item you are sanding have a much smoother surface than any received from other types of sanding methods. Even corners and crevices become smooth and sleek. There are three main types of sandblasting units to choose from. You have the light duty sand blaster that is designed for small jobs. This one comes with a 10ft hose.
If you expect to do larger jobs you may want to consider either the medium or the heavy duty size for your sandblasting needs. Both of these are equipped with a 20 ft hose and can handle all the big jobs on your list
How a Wet Sandblaster Works
The way a sand blaster works is simple. You use a combination of water and sand or other material to blast away the rough spots on the item you want smooth. Different materials are used for sandblasting and each one provides the item being sanded with a distinctive finish all it's on.
Below are materials used in these high pressure pumps for sand blasting?
Baking soda
Dry silica sand
Washed and dried river sand
Copper Slag
Grids
When ready to use simply put the metal probe into the sand or other product you are using. Next, place the blast head onto the end of the lance and you are ready to sandblast away. Be sure and use protective clothing such as heavy work gloves along with a face shield and long sleeves to protect your body when sandblasting. You should also have a well ventilated area to work in.
Below are a few things that can be removed by sandblasting.
Paint
Rust
Grease
Graffiti
Water Sandblasting Basic Instructions
Always remember to point the nozzle downward when in use, this will ensure water will not enter the sand supply. Make sure the sand hose is always dry before use. Keep over spray and other objects out of the sand supply by keeping it covered at all times.
When you first begin sandblasting you should hold the lance several feet away from the item being sanded. Then slowly move in closer to the object you are working on. If you get too close this could cause the object to be damaged. When the correct results are achieved maintain that distance. Soon you will be able to enjoy your perfectly smooth surface.
