Stemless Sulphur Burner

The sugar industry world over is considered as most ancient and still largest food processing sector. In India, it is the second largest agro-based industry. Energy Conservation and Process Economy are the top most priorities throughout the global industrial arena. India, as a developing country has to adopt innovative techniques to achieve these goals. Sulphur station in the sugar industry was found to be a part, where in energy could be conserved. Sulphur is used in the form of SO2 gas for purification of juice and also for bleaching the concentrated syrup to produce white sugar. The main cost centers in SO2 gas generation are quantity of sulphur and steam. Any new approach to eliminate steam demand in this area will directly and substantially decrease the recurring cost. The basic Concept of our project is to recover and re-use the heat energy liberated due to the burning of sulphur. This requires a very efficient and fail-safe heat transport agency, which can withstand extreme operational situations. Thermic fluid, a mineral oil with additives for oxidation resistance was found to have all the desirable properties for efficient heat transfer. Incorporation of thermic fluid system in sulphur stations eliminates the usage of steam and also the cooling water. This technique, if ideally developed and implemented throughout the sugar industries in India, will lead to considerable impact on the nationa s economy.
