STATCOM (also known as SVG in China) is the main equipment of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS), the third dynamic reactive compensation equipment after capacitor compensation, magnetic control reactor MCR SVC and TCR SVC. When STATCOM is connected in the grid in parallel , it is equal to the reactive power source which the reactive current is flexibly controlled and compensates the reactive power. In one hand, it solves the problems of capacitor in parallel with harmonic interference switch. In other hand, it can suppress or manage harmonics according to customersa requirements to improve power quality. STATCOM is cored with voltage sourced converter (VSC), which the output voltage is connected with the system by reactor or transformer. It absorbs or sends the reactive power by adjusting the AC output voltagea s amplitude and phase to realize the target of dynamic adjustment.
