Septon

SEPTON is a series of high performance thermoplastic elastomers developed by Kuraray Co. Ltd., using its unique Isoprene Technology. In terms of structure, SEPTON is a series of hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers (HSBC) with styrene based hard block & a di-ene based soft block, it exhibits rubber-like properties over a wide range of temperatures and hardness.

Prior to processing, the polystyrene end blocks are associated in rigid domains. In the presence of heat and shear stresses such as during processing, the polystyrene domains soften and becomes flowable. On cooling, the polystyrene domains returns to its original form and harden, locking the elastomeric network in place. This physical phenomenon provides SEPTON, high tensile strength and elasticity. SEPTON being a thermoplastic, is recyclable.

SEPTON grades are based on styrene content and molecular weight. Each provides different functional characteristics and is used in different applications.

Applications:

• Adhesive, Coatings & Sealants:

Kurarays SEPTON and HYBRAR grades function in a wide range of adhesive, sealant, and coating applications. Kuraray elastomers exhibit strong shear performance, melt viscosity, and adhesion and tack properties.

Uses: Tapes, Cold seal food packaging, Reactive adhesives, Industrial and construction adhesives, Clear adhesives

• GELS:

Thermoplastic gels are used in a variety of applications, ranging from industrial cable filling to padding. SEPTON can be used in such applications within a broader hardness range.

Uses: Compounds for Gel padding, Gel cushions, Gel Grip Exerciser, Candles, etc.

• Personal Care Products:

Protection and comfort are the most important factors to successful personal care products. With the unique structure of SEPTON, flexibility and elasticity of personal care applications is easy to achieve.

Uses: Soft grip for pen, Tooth brush, Mechanical /electrical instruments, Feminine care products, Non-woven items etc.

• Automotive Products:

Kurarays presence in the automotive industry ranges from the plastic gas tanks to soft-touch buttons. SEPTON Series, and HYBRAR are present in a variety of interior and exterior components. Crucial safety features are possible because of Kuraray elastomers excellent vibration dampening, high heat resistance, and chemical resistance properties.
