These Safety valves, which are fitted to steam boiler, are met with the following criteria:

Discharge pipework from the safety valve must not be obstructed and to be drained at the base to prevent the accumulation of condensate. It is ensured that the discharge pipework is kept as short as possible with the minimum number of bends to minimize any backpressure. There should be no shut off valves between the boiler and the Safety valve.

Safety valves should be regularly tested by the boiler operator on duty. Testing a safety valve is performed by simply lifting the test lever on the side of the valve. This test is done while the boiler is operating at between 75% and 100% of its operating pressure. Prior to the test, determine that the valve discharge is piped to a safe place.
