Detailed modeling of the high switching frequency transients of power converters is done using the small time step feature in the RTDS Simulator. Typically, the small time step simulation of the power converter circuit is interfaced to the large time step simulation of the 50Hz/60Hz grid using the small time step interface transformer. The interface transformer provides a current injection from the small time-step to the large time-step. Large wind or solar systems can be aggregrated and simulated using the scaling influence parameter in the small time step interface parameter. The scale value is just a multiplier and will scale the current injection accordingly. When the scaling influence parameter is enabled, a new tab will allow the scaling of the primary current and effect on the large time step. Within this tab a control word output from a slider can be used to provide the scaling.
