The continuing accumulation of waste plastic is one of the worst sanitation problems faced by industrialized countries. The incineration of plastic is both costly and complex, while stockpiling waste plastic is the subject of growing concern.
We cana t burn or landfill them due to environmental concerns, pollution problems, and legal restrictions. On the other hand, plastic represent a source of energy and chemicals that needs recycling and reusing. By thermal decomposition, it is possible to recover useful products in an environmental friendly way.
Plastic waste is treated at high temperature in vacuum so as to prevent oxidation. The long polymer chains of plastic decompose at high temperatures to smaller hydrocarbon molecules. The decomposition of the plastic is complete at a pyrolysis temperature of 350-450 C.
After the process we are getting pyrolysis oil, carbon black and gas as final products in which the gas is further recycled in the system as a fuel.
