The PVB interlayer is clear and therefore invisible when viewed through the glass. However, interlayers can be tinted to produce colours for architectural applications, like the picture showing above.

Should the glass break, the fragments stick to the interlayer, which is called "spidar web" effectioni and so the integrity of the glass is maintained.
