Anilox - 40, Oxidised Maize Starch

Anilox 40 is a modified Maize starch used as an additive for coating and surface sizing by paper manufactures.

Properties
Has good paste stability, clarity and reduced tendency to retrograde.
Has lower pasting temperature.
Provides tough, clear and flexible films.
Pastes are more stable to salts and hard water than pastes of cationic or anionic starches.

Application
The use of Anilox 40 in size solutions of high solids to seal pores, tie down loose surface, fibers, improve surface strength and to provide hold out printing inks. A higher concentration than acid thinned starches can be used for better finish of printing paper. Solutions of Anilox 40 are clearer than those of acid thinned starches  and have less setback.

Preparation
Anilox 40 is slurried in cold water till free of lumps at desired solids. The slurry can be cooked either by direct steam injection or in jacketed cooker, along with agitation to 950oC for about 20 minutes. When using a continuous jet cooker the starch slurry is heated to 100oC to 1500oC.

Packing: Anilox 40 is available in 50 kg HDPE woven bags.
