Cobalt is the most effective drying agent (per unit of metal) and has the highest level of activity in promoting autoxidation. If used in excess it can causes surface wrinkling. This drier is widely used in white enamels and pale color completely bleaches out in drying of the film to enhance whiteness. Oil films containing cobalt have a high electrical resistance enabling it to be used in varnishes and oil impregnation compound

* It is essential constituent of printing inks & varnishes for rubber
* Used at level of only 0.03 to 0.06% metal of V/S
* Extensively used in all types of paints, varnishes & printing inks, insulating varnishes enamels, leather cloth white enamels, stoving tinplate lacquers & wrinkled finishes
* Used as an accelerator to certain organic peroxides which catalyzes the cold curing of polyester resins and is used in laminating field bonding rubber to steel and other metals.
