MSMEs consume nearly 25% of energy in the entire manufacturing sector but are generally slow in adopting energy saving measures. This sector consumes energy inefficiently compared to large companies and this is attributed mainly to lack of access to financial resources and technical knowledge and awareness. MSMEs also have a significant impact on environment as they are equipped with obsolete, inefficient and polluting technologies and processes. The government of India has advocated MSME sector to invest in energy efficient equipment.
