Features:

Add 10 ml of reagent grade sulphric acid (90-91%) in the butyrometer with a pipette. Then add to it 11 ml. of milk required to be tested, and then add 1 ml of amyl. The neck of the butyrometer should not be wetted during any one of these additions. In no circumstances shall the amyl be added to the butyrometer before the milk. Close the neck of the butyrometer with a stopper firmly without disturbing the contents. Shake the butyrometer until the contents are thoroughly mixed and no white particles can be seen. Invert once or twice during the process.

Centrifuge the butyrometer immediately after mixing with the stopper and outermost for 4 minutes. Withdraw the butyrometer from the centrifuge and adjust the stopper. If necessary, to bring the position of the fat column on to a main graduation mark. Then take the reading.
