Microcontroller Based Speed Indicating Cum Recording System

Speed Recorders are designed to provide a reliable and accurate record of speed, time and distance parameters of a locomotive on which it is mounted. They can be powered from the DC voltage available in the locomotive. They are suitable for voltage variations between 50 -140 V and is thus fit for application on all Indian Railway dc/ac Electrical multiple Locomotives. The speed recording system produces a record of speed Vs distance, Speed Vs Time, etc. traveled by the locomotive on a Non Volatile Memory at two places for higher redundancy for any post-incident analysis. The system also provides digital display of various parameters and sounds audio-visual alarms on exceeding set speed limits and certain malfunctions of the system. There are two driver cabs on the locomotive. One side of the driver cab is fitted with Microcontroller based Speed Recorder cum Indicator and the other side of the driver cab is fitted with Micro controller based speed Indicator only. The communication between these two units is through RS 485 communication protocol. These two units are provided with the LCD display and alphanumeric keypad for entering the driver and locomotive parameters.
