9-Methoxy-7H -furo[3,2-g][1]benzopyran-7-one obtained from the seed of
Ammi majus. Family Umbelliferae. Molecular formula is C12H8O4 and
molecular weight 216.18
Methoxsalen is a
natural substance that is derived from the seeds of the Ammi majus, a
plant known for its photo activating characteristics. Methoxsalen
belongs to a classification of drugs called furocoumarins and
psoralens, and it is usually indicated in the treatment of psoriasis, a
skin disease that causes inflammation and scaling; vitiligo, a skin
pigmentation disorder, and eczema.
