Gray Gutta Percha Point

Gutta percha points are dental materials commonly used in endodontic (root canal) treatment. They are small, tapered cones made from gutta-percha, a natural polymer derived from the sap of certain trees. Gutta-percha has excellent properties for dental applications, such as biocompatibility, thermal insulation, and the ability to be softened and molded when heated.

During a root canal procedure, the infected or damaged dental pulp inside the tooth is removed, and the root canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected. Once the canals are prepared, gutta percha points are used to fill the empty spaces left by the removed pulp.

Gutta percha points are available in various sizes and taper configurations to match the prepared root canal space. They come in standardized lengths and diameters. The points are typically coated with a sealer or cement to ensure a hermetic seal and prevent any bacterial leakage.

To place gutta percha points, a dentist or endodontist will select the appropriate size and shape for the specific tooth and canal. The gutta percha point is then heated to make it pliable and inserted into the canal using specialized instruments. Once it cools down and solidifies, it forms a stable, inert filling material inside the root canal.
