Condensate released from process equipments contains useful thermal energy that needs to be recycled in the process somehow. One most common method is to send this condensate back to boiler feed water circuit.
However it is not always easy as steam is used at different pressures in process equipments. Condensate can not be mixed at different pressures as it is a flashing liquid. HP condensate will generate sizable amount of flash steam when exposed to lower pressure.
So, condensate at higher pressure needs to be handled in a different manner. The flashing tendency of HP condensate can be used to advantage by using an accessory called Flash Vessel.
When connected to an existing LP source, this release is quick and efficient. If such LP source is not available, a back pressure control valve fitted on the flash steam line can ensure release of LP steam at constant pressure.
