A viscosity modifying admixture for self compacting and high
workability concretes

FlowAid Description

FlowAid is a
ready-to-use liquid admixture used to modify the rheology of the concrete mix.
It finds use in the manufacture of (SCC) Self compacting Concrete, Pumpable and
High-Workability Concrete.

A self-compacting mix should have high workability and high
viscosity. Although a superplasticizer admixture gives high fluidity, alone it
does not guarantee the necessary properties to ensure a good degree of
self-compacting. that is why FlowAid is a fundamental admixture when making
Self Compacting Concrete and High Workability Concrete.

By using a superplasticiser alone, there is high
segregation, which can lead to a improper mixed concrete. So to achieve a right
balance between the fluidity & the proper placement of all the ingredients
of the concrete /mortar, FlowAid is used to change the rheological behaviour of
the concrete.

The fluidity of the mix is guaranteed provided there is no
friction between the internal particles and the concrete can flow freely;
segregation occurs when the components of the concrete separate out into mortar
and large aggregates. Reaching the right balance between fluidity and
resistance to segregation apparently opposing properties is essential for
this type of mix. This balance is lacking when the fluidity of the

concrete is obtained by adding water.

The technology of using FlowAid in combination of PCE
based superplasticiser of the Self Compacting Concrete range allows
concretes to be placed without vibration, even when the structural
reinforcement is extremely dense.
