EMTAF-B TABLETS contain the antiviral medication Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF). They are primarily used to treat chronic (long-term) Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. It may also be used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines for HIV-1 infection. Key functionsMechanism of action: Tenofovir alafenamide works by inhibiting the viral enzyme reverse transcriptase. This prevents the hepatitis B virus and HIV from replicating and multiplying in the body, which helps to reduce the viral load and clear the infection.Safety profile: TAF is known to have improved kidney and bone safety compared to older formulations of tenofovir (TDF).
