Electromechanical Relays

An electromechanical relay (EMR) is an electrically operated switch that uses an electromagnetic coil to physically move a set of contacts, opening or closing a separate, often higher-power, circuit. This function allows a low-power signal to control a high-power circuit, providing isolation between the two for safety and control purposes. They are found in applications like motor controls, automated appliances, and power systems.
How it works
Control signal: A low-power electrical signal is applied to an electromagnetic coil.
Electromagnetism: The coil becomes magnetized, creating a magnetic field.
Armature movement: The magnetic field attracts a movable metal armature.
Contact switching: The movement of the armature physically forces electrical contacts to open or close, switching the main, high-power circuit.
Isolation: This mechanical action isolates the control circuit from the high-power circuit.
