Basic principle of 'magnetic crack detection' or 'MPT: If a predetermined magnetic flux is passed through ferrous component, some flux is leaked out wherever there are cracks. On this leaked flux, if fine magnetic particles are applied, magnetically held patterns of the superficial, subsurface, latent cracks of its position, size, nature and shape are produced by 'the magnetic ink' on the surface itself, and can easily be seen by naked eye. The maximum sensitivity of this leakage flux is at right angle the direction of flux. To detect all of the cracks the flux must be applied twice, perpendicular to each other.
Production engineering is aimed at salvaging of a useful component, rather than wasting the useful component. To achieve this aim, the crack detecting Magnetic Power has to be critically controlled to the accepted standards and levels to eliminate detection of salvageable cracks. The new MC-3000VR model offers this finer flux control by the continuously variable Magnetizing Power Control.

Operation
- Slide the Right Hand Pole Head, adjust the length to mount the Crank on the 'V-Blocks' so that the flywheel end and the timing-gear rest on V-Blocks. Adjust Magnetizing Power Control to required value.
- Select Technique.
- MF Technique: Depress the Power-Push-Button, and apply ink and inspect for RADIAL CRACKS.
- CF Technique: Depress the Power-Push-Button, and apply ink and inspect for AXIAL CRACKS.
- Demagnetize by 'balanced pole reversal' and unload the Crank.

- UN Kit: Comes with Rexene curtains and u/v Lamp for fluorecent magnetic ink, where the 'Crack pattern glows under U/v light making them very easy to locate especially on dark surface. It also serves as a smart looking dust cover.
- Remote Inspection Kit: Ideal for testing Cylinder Blocks or Head Blocks. Comes with a pair of Hand-Prods for flowing the heavy current, Foot-Switch & 0.5 lit. water-base black ink.
- Consumables : Magnetic Inks,Brown/Black/Fluorescent in Dry/Wet, Kerosene/Water soluble, ASTM Test piece, etc.
- Services: Certified MPI Inspector's training, Servicing of Machine, Yearly ISO complying Machine Calibration. Full turnkey projects are undertaken in Magnetic Particle Testing to suite individual product/Organization.
