Key Features
Suppression of recurrent herpes simplex:
Adult: 800mg daily in 2-4 divided doses. May reduce to 400-600mg daily if necessary. Reassess the condition every 6-12mth. For mild or infrequent recurrences: Episodic treatment may be used: 200mg 5 times daily for 5 days, preferably begun during the prodromal period.
Prophylaxis of herpes Simplex in immunocompromised patients: Adult: 200mg-400mg 4times daily. Childa Y2yr:200-400mg 4times daily; <2 Yr: 100-200mg 4 times daily.
Varicella Zoster:
Adult:>40kg: 800mg 4 times daily for 5 days. Child: a Y2yr&a 40kg: 20 mg/kg (upto 800mg)4times daily for 5 days.
Herpes Zoster(Shingles):
Adult: 800mg 5 times daily for 7-10days. Child: a Y6yr: 800mg 4times daily; 2-5yr: 400mg 4times daily; <2yr: 200mg 4times daily.
