Demineralisation

Demineralisation is the process of removing mineral salts from water by using the ion exchange process. With most natural water sources it is possible to use demineralisation and produce water of a higher quality than conventional distillation. Demineralisation involves two ion exchange reactions. Initially the Cations such as Calcium, Magnesium and Sodium are removed in a Hydrogen Cation Exchanger, the exchangable ion in the resins bed being hydrogen. The salts are thus converted into their respective acids. The acidic water is then passed through an anion exchanger where the anions such as sulphates, chlorides, etc. are removed by exchange of hydroxyl ions. We employ weak acid cation and weak base anion apart from strong acid cation and strong base anion to achieve optimum efficiency and operating cost, depending on the water analysis report.The declassifying system is also added after due deliberation on enhanced capital expenditure vis a vis operating cost reduction.
