Bubble CPAP System
A Bubble CPAP system is a non-invasive ventilation strategy used primarily for newborns with infant respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS). It delivers continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to spontaneously breathing newborns to maintain lung volumes during expiration. The system uses short binasal prongs or a nasal mask to deliver humidified and blended oxygen to the infant. Pressure in the circuit is maintained by immersing the distal end of the expiratory tubing in water, with the depth of immersion determining the pressure generated in the infant s airways.
