Benzbromarone is a uricosuric agent used for the treatment of gout and hyperuricaemia. It was first used in the 1970s when it was shown to be an effective urate lowering drug (Heel et al., 1977). Reports of possible hepatotoxicity led to its withdrawal from the market in 2003 by Sanofi-Synthelabo.

It is a type of vitamin D found in food and used as a dietary supplement.
