Due to non linear load have widely application in recent years, such as arc furnace, electrified railway, frequency convertor, rectifier, UPS and computer. It brings serious negative influence to quality of power supply because of their non-linear, impact and unbalanced characteristics. In another aspect, the electrical and electronic devices are more sensitive to the power quality for modern factory and commercial industry, as well as common households. - Conventional passive filters are mainly applied for harmonic restrain and reactive power compensation due to its advantages of less cost, simple structure, guaranteed stability and easy for maintenance. But passive filters have large dimension, their performance is affected by system and it is possible for passive filters to have resonance with system. After all, it is not enough to manage harmonic only by using passive filters. We must use new technologya active power filter for integrate power quality management in power distribution system.
