Primarily used as a water scavenger in various water- sensitive reactions, this chemical compound is highly efficient as compared to ethanol for the dehydration of animal tissue. In addition, it also acts as a dehydrating agent. This chemical is an intermediate in the synthesis of vitamin E, vitamin A and various carotenoids such as astaxanthin.
