TOPIC : NEW IMPORTERS
Posted on 07 July 2007 at 16:02:00

THROUGH INTERNET, I AM ABLE TO SOURCE MANY IMPORTERS FOR MY PRODUCTS. SO I SEE GOOD EXPORT POTENTIAL.

BUT THE MAIN PROBLEM IS HOW TO APPROACH THEM. OUR PRODUCT [NARROW WOVEN FABRICS / BELTS USED IN BAGS, SOFT LUGGAGE BAGS etc]NEEDS TO BE SEEN BY THEM i.e. WE HAVE TO SEND SAMPLES WHICH IS VERY COSTLY FOR OVERSEAS BUYERS. WE ARE NOT SURE WHETHER THEY WILL PLACE THE ORDER AFTER RECEVING OUR SAMPLES.

THE SECOND ISSUE IS REGARDING THEIR CREDITIBILITY. HOW TO FIND THIS OR WHICH AGENCY TO BE CONTACTED.

THE THIRD POINT IS WHEN NEITHER THE SELLER NOR BUYER KNOWS EACH OTHER, HOW CAN AN IMPORTER OPEN L/C IN OUR FAVOR AND WITHOUT L/C HOW CAN WE EXPORT ?

What is the solution to all the above?

In addition to the good replies of Mr. Sandeep and Mr. Trehan, I would like to add the following:
I suggest you to use the services of well known consultants such as Dun & Bradsheet, who are having offices all over the world. They will give you Business Information Report (BIR) of your buyer (Of course, you have to pay some fee).
BIR helps you answer questions such as:
(i) Is my prospect well established?
(ii) What is the level of risk associated with my prospect?
(iii) Will my customer pay, and when?
(iv) How does my customer/ supplier compare with his peer group?
(v) Can I depend on a supplier to deliver as promised?
(vi) Has the financial condition and stability of my customer/ supplier changed?

This is purely my personal opinion and not for propagating the above company.

Hello Mr. N. R. Parikh,

As this topic already been discussed. I want to add my opinion into it.

In my opinion if i am Exporters / Suppliers then i need Importers / Buyers for my products.

In this case i will appoint a agent who will meet the importers and get the relevant information.

Appointing Agents :
Selling through an overseas agent is an effective strategy. These agents serve as a source of market intelligence. Regularly sending the latest trends on the current fashion, taste and price in the market. Being a man on the spot, the agent is in a position to render his advice to exporter or new methods and strategy for pushing up sales of your products. He also provides you support in the matter of transportation, reservation of accommodation, appointment with the government as and when required by you. In some countries it is compulsory under their law to sell through local agents only.

Point's To be consider :
Size of the agent's company
Date of foundation of the agent's company
Company's ownership and control
Company's capital, funds, available and liabilities
Name, age and experience of the company's senior executives,ETC..

All inquires which comes directly to you, matched to your profiles...Now You deal with the buyer directly and arrange all viewings.
