TOPIC : Common problems with Indian buyers
Posted on 11 December 2008 at 15:19:00

Actually we are India/ Malaysia based Trading and logistics company. Right from 2005 we got so many enquiries from Indian buyers like coal, metal scrap, palm oil, etc.

We also source the right supplier and give our best quote to work out. Once we give our quote they come up with lots of terms and negotiations. After everything is finalised and agreed, they disappear.

Because of this type of biz attitude we lost our reputation/ strategy with the potential clients.

I feel this is the common problem faced by most of the traders.

Now a days to avoid this type of people we are straightaway asking for LOI and the company profile to work further.

Best joke is the country like Indonesia. Don't want to entertain India buyers since they also had bad experiences.

So our kind request to all suppliers is that please don't spoil India's reputation in the world market. In ancient times we were one of the best trading countries.

I totally agree with your views but this is not the problem only with indian buyers, even foreign buyers shows deep interest initially and asks for free samples but once the sample is sent to them they don't revert back.

They disappear, this problem can be solved at the personal level only.

One should start doing his business seriously and take responsibility of his act. Spoiling time in this time poor generation is not adviceable.

I have added Sellers to the subject line. Same thing applies to sellers also. They are very sweet before they get the order from buyer. And then do not bother to take care of the specifications, & guidelines provided by the buyer to supply adequate material in quality and time frame. when discrepancies are informed, it is rare that a supplier comes forward to accept the responsibility and correct the same. On the contrary it is buyer who faces the consequences and the loss.

Rightly said by Mr. U. Yoganand, please put a stop to this cheating business, as this is tarnishing India's reputation all over.

IS there any government body to protect interest of buyers? for Exporters ECGA has been formed. But where will the buyer plead for recovery of his hard earned revenue lost due to mistakes of the supplier? Any guidance please. I have been writing to various organizations like export promotion council and various officers taking their contact details from web. so far none of them responded.

It is very bad. we as indians try to promote our country and products from our country, but end up with chaos and heavy losses. since 7 years I have been facing this, and ultimately now I have decided to give up and STOP IMPORTS FROM INDIA As a whole. I cannot tolerate anymore losses. That is all

One fish makes the whole pond dirty..is that what others believe about India, then i am sorry i don't agree with that. The perception that people are making about Indian Business houses is just not true, if all r the same then how come India is one of the largest exporter and largest importer of many commodities. There are genuine traders here, its just that one have a bad experience and makes a prejudice about all of us. It's you who is supposed to make all proper inquiry about whom you are dealing with. Patience is the most important thing in any business, don't loose it so early and give up. Let us work together and make this trading a wonderful experience.

yes i do agree that there may be good suppliers in India. I am also an individual from India, and believe in delivering value for money paid by my customers and i strive to get that from my suppliers. however all these years what i have faced has been mentioned above. seven years is pretty long time. by this time it is really tough to sustain repeated losses. what I am asking is whether any quality control measures would be exercised by govt or exporting body, at least thinking our country's honor. But most of us know how they also work. Patience is important but not to the extent till bad supplies finish your business. it is not that i dealt with only one supplier. i have had chance to operate at least about 10 till now. Even those who are award winners at hands of Indian government also resort to this type of cheating. so whom to believe and whom not.

for exporters from India, bodies like ECGC takes care to provide them right information, likewise for importers does government take any initiative to provide such a service or information regarding the suppliers? I don't think. however i shared my experience with others. when time comes, i will open up their details on this portal also. let others take a note of this and take care to keep themselves safe from these frauds. I remain

Your question "IF all r the same then how come india is one of the largest exporter and largest importer of many commodities?" Have you any time analysed that. I would prefer to mention that IT IS BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE US WHO ARE AWAY FROM OUR OWN COUNTRY, TRY TO PROMOTE PRODUCES FROM OUR COUNTRY. BUT PEOPLE SITTING THERE IN INDIA WHO WANT TO MAKE A FAST BUCK JUST IGNORE THE FACT THAT THEY MAKE THIS BUCK ON THE COST OF THEIR OWN COUNTRYMEN. THEY DO NOT HESITATE EVEN TO FINISH OFF AN ESTABLISHED LINE OF BUSINESS FOR THEIR OWN SMALL BENEFIT. JUST TRY TO ANALYSE WHAT IS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE FROM INDIAN ORIGIN HAVE MIGRATED OUT. THIS VOLUME BUILT UP IS NOTHING OTHER THAN THE EFFORT PUT BY THESE TYPE OF PEOPLE. BUT ALAS, WHEN ARE UNSCRUPULOUS SUPPLIERS FROM INDIA GOING TO REALIZE THIS. WHO KNOWS.
